What is Coaching Anyway?
Coaching is a working relationship where the coach uses specific
techniques to guide the client in making career and life choices
that are meaningful and purposeful. Coaching is goal and action-oriented.
Its focus is on the present and the future - not the past. Coaching
can help a person alter the way they view the world and themselves.
Ultimately this impacts how the client makes decisions. It's
about choice and change.
It's Your Choice
Would you like to gain more control over some aspect of your life
or work? Have you wanted to achieve certain goals, but seem to be
stuck in a rut? Are you asking yourself "is this all there
is?" Are you integrating work into your life in a way that
suits your values? Do you simply want more time for yourself and/or
your family but can't seem to find it?
Whether you are a corporate manager working 70 hours a week and
getting little personal satisfaction from your work, someone who
is ready for a change but doesn't know where to start, a small business
owner who realizes you need more focus to be successful, or someone
who is just tired of feeling burnt out, you have some very important
choices to make.
You can be the master of your fate, and make conscious decisions
about the life you want to create. You have the power to change
your life. It's never too late. On the other hand, you can also
choose to be a victim, a puppet or a procrastinator forever. It's
your choice.
If you want to make conscious decisions, a coach can help you
design a new way of working and living. A coach gives you objective
and honest feedback that others may not have the courage to give
you, and coaches can help you anticipate obstacles and overcome
them. Coaches provide tools for change and encouragement to take
positive action to build the life and work you want.
The Coach's Role
The role of coach is multi-dimensional. It is our job to listen
very carefully, hearing underneath the symptoms, and to help you
identify core issues and build a plan based upon the context of
your unique life, personality, values and talents. We will make
agreements about specific actions that you will make to begin the
process of change. We believe in balancing the pursuit of dreams
with practical choices to achieve your own definition of success.
The Client's Role
Your role is to be open to feedback, fully participate in the entire
process, and be accountable for the agreements you make. Ultimately
it isn't only the coach who makes the coaching process successful
- it is fundamentally the responsibility of the client to implement
the action plan and move forward in his or her own life.
